From our pantry, we distribute dfferent kinds of items. No items are ever sold. They are distributed
free of charge. We do not operate a "thrift store."
We accept donations on the second, third, and fourth Saturdays of each month between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon.
(During November and December 2006, donations will be accepted on the first, second, and third Saturdays of the month.)
The address of the pantry is 1072 N. El Centro Avenue in Hollywood. This is one building south of Santa Monica
Blvd. on El Centro. El Centro is between Vine Street and Gower Avenue.
The following items are gratefully accepted:
Clothing
New and used items of clothing of all kinds and all sizes for newborns, infants, toddlers, children (including school
uniforms), teenagers, men and women. We also need shoes, socks, and underwear in good condition.
We prefer items that do not require dry cleaning.
Non-Perishable Food
Canned and packaged food are needed, especially canned meats (tuna is a favorite), vegetables, fruits and soup.
We purchase the majority of the food distirbuted (one ton per month) from the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, but additional
items are welcome and help defray the expenses.
Hygiene Items
Hygiene items needed are shampoo, conditioner, bars of soap, toothpaste,
toothbrushes, disposable razors, lotion, deodorant, lip balm, combs, brushes,
sanitary napkins, diapers (especially larger sizes), toilet paper, and laundry soap, Laundry
powder is preferred over liquid. We divide it into reclosable bags so it can be distributed to more people.
Many donors collect shampoo, conditioner, and lotion from hotels while on vacation or business trips and then donate
them.
Pest Control
Most low-rent apartments in Hollywood are filled with cockroaches. Our people relate cockroaches crawling on them
and into their ears and eyes while sleeping. The roaches also get into appliances and eat the wiring. Please donate roach
motels and boric acid in powder form to help control them.
Household Items
We distribute blankets, sheets, bedspreads, towels,
washcloths, dishes, pots and pans, eating and cooking utensils, curtains, backpacks,
sturdy carts on wheels, strollers, and furniture (beds, dressers, kitchen tables, etc.). Please
contact Barbara Vasquez before delivering furniture to be sure we have the need and/or space for it.
Several of our families currently have a need for a refrigerator. Some can use the standard size
and some need the small size. Microwave ovens and coffee pots are also welcome. Please be
sure appliances are in good working order. Generally, washers, dryers. and dishwashers are not allowed in the apartments.
Items in bold are most needed at this time.
